About Radical Shades
Radical Shades came about because I could not find any images that were embroidered, and I disliked the way ink printed images looked over time. Most embroidering in commercial stores are designs of flowers and strawberries or other cutesy images. There was nothing on the market dealing with images which expressed my lifestyle.
As time passed, I became aware of an ever-growing need for self expression from our commercial world and the creation of Radical Shades was born. At last there is the opportunity to validate our individuality through images that express and inspire.
With this explosive approach, we needed a name that reflected a difference from traditional embroidery to bring the concept of embroidery from the dark ages to the 21st century. The technology was here, now we offer creativity with that technology. With certain images to reflect your lifestyle, a radical approach for the different shades of our lives.
Before you see the finished image for the product you have chosen many hours will have been put into creating the image you will ultimately receive.
I start with drawing the stock images focusing on variations of lines to create the image and the effect I want to show in the embroidery. The image is loaded on the computer where the digitizing process begins. A great deal of care is taken to create the images I use; since I am an artist and I work with artists, it is important to catch the proper look from the drawings I use.
I began designing images to reflect who I was. The idea grew and I saw the importance of allowing people to have household linen they could personally relate to; to bring true validation to their lives. This goes beyond just a towel or napkin and goes beyond color schemes and textures. It is about adding art form to your home at a reasonable cost.
Many embroidery companies don’t want to work with artists, because artists are particular about how they see their images. I was there; I found embroidery companies were charging me top dollar and inflating costs with many delaying factors. I came across companies who had a take-it or leave-it attitude. My struggle was about how could I sell my image and keep the cost affordable to my customers.
In the end, I started my company because I saw the potential the computerized embroidery machine had. Yes there were times, the images were not completely accurate, but what I ran across most of the time, was the companies didn’t want to take the time to process the image correctly. The almighty dollar was the bottom line. Unless you wanted 600 shirts embroidered, you never saw a break in cost. Add on top of those 600 shirts, the digitizing costs, which many companies outsourced to companies who exclusively digitized. In the end embroidery was exclusively for the corporate logo, and corporate name.
The objective of this web site is to provide stock images to offer the customer a selection to choose from, so they can create a look which defines their individual lifestyle and defines who they are. In time Radical Shade’s image library will grow to reflect the true character of the community we live in, but one step at a time, one image at a time, to allow those who really want a unique look for their clothes, their room, their homes and their lifestyle the opportunity they have always wanted.
Yes we can do custom embroidery, we focus on the overall craftsmanship and it may take a bit more time, but we want you, the customer, to be happy expressing yourself through our embroidered products.
