  Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Bath Towels-Why is cotton so widely used in towels
A: No other natural fiber can compare with cotton when it comes to absorbency, softness, durability and ease of care.

Q: Bath towels-What is so special about Egyptian cotton towels?
A: Towels woven with loops of cotton grown in Egypt have an incredible durability, a brilliant luster and an incomparably silky feel.

Q: Bath towels-Do colors run when laundered?
A: All deep-tone towels will rid themselves of excess dye during the first few launderings. Adding ¼ to ½ cup of vinegar to the laundry when washing colored towels for the first time helps "set" the color.

Q: Bath towels-Are velour towels as absorbent as looped terry towels?
A: The shearing process removes part of the terry on one side of a looped towel, thereby slightly reducing the absorbency on that side. This does not affect the performance of the towel providing the velour side is used to blot, rather than rub, dry. The reverse side of the towel is regular looped terry and can be used to rub dry.

Q: Bath towels-What is the band on towel called?
A: The woven area that is about two inches from the top and bottom edges of the towel is called a dobby. It is there strictly for ornamental purposes

Q: Bath towels-What is an embellished towel?
A: Embellished towels include any towel that is decorated with embroidery, lace, satin or other kinds of fabric appliqué, braids or trim.

Q: Bath towels-How many towels do I need
A: A general rule is to have at least three bath towels per person on hand. It is a good idea to buy two face cloths for each bath towel. Face cloths are exposed to soap and may be put to use several times each day. They will look worn long before your bath towel or hand towel.

Q: Bath towels- what sizes do towels come in?
A: Towels come in several sizes... Style Size Range Bath Sheet 30 x 60 to 36 x 72 inches Bath Towels 22 x 42 to 30 x 54 inches Hand Towels 16 x 26 to 16 x 30 inches Wash Cloths 12 x 12 or 13 x 13 inches Fingertip Towels 11 x 18 inches

Q: Embroidery Care-Home Laundering
A: All embroidered garments should be washed with a mild detergent. Do not use chlorine bleach or optical brightening agents. If bleach is required for washing, use non-chlorine bleach in accordance with product instructions. Machine wash garment in cold water using the delicate wash cycle. If color residue appears in water, rinse first in lukewarm water and then cold several times until rinse water becomes clear. Remove promptly after wash cycle completion. Never leave any piece of embroidered clothing soaking or in water or lying in a pile when wet. Upon completion of washing cycle, place articles immediately in dryer, use normal setting. (for best results, we recommend preheating the dryer.) Do not wring out embroidered articles. Do not rub stained embroidery.

Q: Embroidery Care-Dry Cleaning:
A: Embroidery may be dry cleaned, however, extreme care should be exercised when dry cleaning. Special care must be taken when dark colors are dry cleaned. Avoid use of pre spotting agents.

Q: Embroidery Care-Ironing:
A: Embroidered fabrics should always be ironed on the reverse side. It is recommended to iron embroidery between two pieces of cloth. It is not recommended to wet embroidery prior to ironing or to use a steam iron.

Q: Embroidery Care- Special Note
A: Normally the care label instructions pertain to the garment, not the embroidery. Special care should be taken when laundering embroidered garments. Since the conditions of use, washing, pressing and cleaning, etc. vary in use of yarns and threads, the purchaser should assure himself by preliminary tests that the dye fastness of the yarn or thread is 100% colorfast to crocking or washing under all conditions. We cannot be responsible for any consequential damages since the value of the thread is so disproportionate to the value of the goods into which it is stitched.

Q: How to decide placement application of images
A: There is an industry standard as to where imaging is placed on products. Radical Shades will generally hold to the placement standards, unless specifically requested otherwise.

Q: Will you accept professional photographs or photos from magazines or other materials?
A: No. Due to copyright infringement, we are unable to reproduce this type of photo/image. If there is a photo/image which you would like to have embroidered, it is the customer's responsibility to gather the documentation with signatures from the original photographer, artist, and or company stating they will allow the image to be embroidered. We will then need to see the actual document before we will begin working on the photo or image.

Q: Bath towels-What is the best way to launder a towel?
A: Machine wash in warm water with a mild soap and tumble dry. Always wash dark colors separately. Do not use bleach. Tumble dry on cotton setting and fold promptly. Avoid fabric softener as it will make towels less absorbent. Instead, shake each towel once when wet and again after drying to fluff up the loops. If you are line drying, shake towel before hanging and again when it is dry to fluff up the terry fibers. Wash new towels before use to remove any excess dye and finishing solvents

Q: t-shirts/tanktops-Are the marked sizes of the shirts true?
A: The shirts we list do size accurately, we use a preshrunk cotton, or a poly/cotton blend for color and durability. Shirt sizes vary from maker to maker, some shirts will fit nicely until they are washed. Cottons do shrink, whether preshrunk or not. Preshrunk cotton slows the amount of shrinkage to the garment [with proper care]. There are many variables as to why shirts stay true in color and size, all depending on washing and drying techniques. We cannot emphasis enough; when washing items which have a tendency to shrink (cottons, rayons synthetics, etc.)use a mild detergent, and wash in cold water on a gentle cycle. To keep the color longer we recommend washing in cold water and to hang dry the item. If you must tumble dry the item, low heat is recommended, and promptly remove from the dryer. Please note when shirts stay in a hot dryer for long periods of time, the color will fade, and the shirt will shrink with prolonged heat. We recommend for your investment, the proper care. The care of embroidery is different than the instruction label for the shirt we suggest following (Embroidery Care-Home Laundering) listed in this FAQ.

Q: What if Sizes need to be changed in the middle of production?
A: Customers sometimes order garments [shirts]as gifts and after the order has been placed, call back to change the size of the shirt. Unfortunately once the product has been ordered Radical Shades may have difficulty in changing the specifications. We will subtract the cost of the image [ $1.00 per 1000 stitches] the remaining balance of the shirt will be charged to the customer. Radical Shades will be happy to make the new shirt in the size requested at the original cost quoted. If the change should happen while the order is in shipping, a restocking fee will apply [$10.00 min. per order or larger] to be applied to the final billing of the order.
